Outcome: Delivered a cleaner, more accessible website structure, improved navigation, and   a refreshed visual style that better showcases programs, student work, and enrollment   pathways.

What is T.A.G. Labs?

T.A.G. Labs is a DC-based nonprofit that teaches youth coding, game design, and digital arts. Their programs serve 2,000+ students through in-school, afterschool, and community partnerships — all focused on helping young creators turn their passion for gaming into future tech careers.

Problem:

T.A.G. Labs’ previous website was outdated, hard to navigate, and didn’t clearly communicate who the organization served or how to get involved. Families struggled to find programs, partners had trouble understanding the mission, and the site didn’t reflect the energy or professionalism of the brand.

Research:

User Personas:
→   Students (6–12th grade)
・ Looking for fun, creative programs
・ Needed simple navigation + engaging visuals
→   Parents & Educators
・ Seeking trustworthy programs + student outcomes
・ Needed clear info on structure, success stats, and enrollment
→   Community Partners & Donors
・ Interested in mission alignment + educational impact
・ Needed easy access to data, success stories, partnership options
→   Competitive Analysis
・ Found strong use of impact storytelling, bold visuals, and clarity
・ T.A.G. Labs needed a balance of
professional credibility and youth creativity

Key Insights:

Students were drawn to fun, creative visuals but needed simpler navigation
Parents and educators wanted trust, clarity, and evidence of outcomes
Partners needed impact data and a clear sense of mission alignment

T.A.G. Labs needed a site that felt equally youthful and credible, fun but still professional

UX Decisions:

Based on research and user needs, I made several key UX decisions to improve clarity, navigation, and user engagement.
1. Simplified Navigation:
Simplified navigation to reduce cognitive load and guide users toward the most important actions: Programs, Showcase, and Enrollment.

2. Clearer Program Paths:
Parents immediately recognize what’s available for their child’s age and helps users understand learning pathways (middle school → high school)

3. Improved Enrollment Flow:
Reduced friction in the enrollment process to increase sign-ups and reduce parent confusion.
The old flow made users jump between pages (Home → Programs → Email → Contact)
The new flow consolidates everything into a clear path (Programs → Enroll → Schedule)

4. Modernized Visual System:
The updated visual system mixes clean, professional typography with bold, energetic colors  that reflects T.A.G. Labs as both a trusted educator and a creative space for youth.

Outcomes:

Clearer navigation: Families can now find programs, schedules, and enrollment steps
     without spending too much time

Faster enrollment flow: The new simplified steps reduces confusion
Stronger brand identity: Updated visuals help T.A.G. Labs feel modern, energetic, and
    trustworthy
Showcases student work: A dedicated gallery highlights achievements and builds program
    credibility

Improved communication: Programs are organized by age group, making decisions easier for
    parents
Mobile-friendly layout: Pages are more responsive and readable on phones (where most
    parents browse)

Impact:

Overall, the redesign helped T.A.G. Labs present themselves as both creative and professional, making it easier for families to understand programs, see student success, and confidently
take the next step.

Reflection:

From this experience, I learned how important it is to keep things clear and approachable. I enjoyed balancing student creativity with the clarity families need, and with more time, I’d keep refining the navigation and overall impact.
